Zanetti: We've spoken about Icardi too much

Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti said there has been too much talk about Mauro Icardi amid uncertainty over the star's future in Milan. Icardi has not played since he was stripped of the captaincy last month, with the disgruntled striker claiming to have been injured but Inter initially said tests could not uncover a specific issue. Linked with the likes of Real Madrid, Juventus and Napoli amid a contract stand-off, Icardi returned to Inter training on Tuesday. Asked if Icardi could be in line to face Lazio in Serie A action on Sunday, Zanetti said: "I think we have talked about him too much. "Now we must focus on the field because it is fundamental for the season finale." Inter are third in Serie A, two points clear of fourth-placed AC Milan following their derby victory prior to the international break. Zanetti added: "We have the goal of qualifying for the Champions League, 10 games are left and on Sunday we meet a direct rival. The team is preparing...

Suarez pushing for Arsenal start after impressing Emery

Denis Suarez is pushing for the first start of his Arsenal career this weekend after impressing Unai Emery in the days after sealing his loan from Barcelona. Suarez agreed a move to the Premier League ahead of the transfer deadline, his opportunities at Camp Nou having become limited under Ernesto Valverde. The 25-year-old made his Arsenal debut from the bench against Manchester City – his former club – playing 24 minutes in the 3-1 loss at the Etihad Stadium. And after another week of getting to know his new surroundings, Emery hopes Suarez can become an important part in Arsenal's squad going forward. "The first day last week was adaption to us and also with 25 minutes against Manchester City," he told a media conference ahead of Saturday's trip to Huddersfield Town. "But already from the first day with us, he was already [giving a] good performance. "This week he worked Monday with our coaches and also yesterday. Today he is working with different ad...

Llorente suffers recurrence of groin injury

Marcos Llorente is set for another spell on the Real Madrid sidelines after re-injuring his left groin in Wednesday's Copa del Rey clash with Barcelona. Llorente missed three weeks at the start of January with the same injury and had only made three appearances since returning to full fitness. The latest of those came in Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Barca their semi-final first leg, but his involvement at Camp Nou lasted just over an hour. Llorente was substituted after 64 minutes and subsequent scans have confirmed a recurrence of the injury. A Madrid statement read: "Following the tests carried out today on our player Marcos Llorente, he has been diagnosed with a grade two injury to his left adductor." Madrid put no timescale on his recovery, but given the similarity to his previous problem he could miss between three and six weeks. That will mean he will be unavailable for this weekend's derby with Atletico Madrid and the first leg of their Champions League ...

Higuain is the best striker in the world - Romagnoli

Gonzalo Higuain may have struggled at AC Milan but former Rossoneri team-mate Alessio Romagnoli believes the Chelsea striker is the best in the world. Higuain scored six league goals in the first half of the Serie A season but his form over those 15 games saw the Argentina striker often criticised. The 31-year-old swapped Italy for England last month after Chelsea agreed a loan deal with parent club Juventus, Milan letting the forward go after agreeing the transfer of Krzysztof Piatek from Genoa. After failing to score in his first two Chelsea matches, Higuain looked sharp against Huddersfield Town as he scored a brace against in the 5-0 victory. Milan captain Romagnoli was sad to see the former Real Madrid and Napoli striker leave San Siro, describing him as one of the elite. "I still think he is the best striker in the world," said the defender, as quoted by Calciomercato. "I am sorry he decided to leave but we respect his decision. He is a friend of mine and if ...

North London derby to be held at Wembley as Spurs' stadium delays continue

Tottenham have confirmed next month's north London derby with Arsenal will not be played at their new stadium as delays continue to hamper their move. Spurs had hoped to switch to the new White Hart Lane early in the 2018-19 campaign but construction delays kept them at their temporary home of Wembley. While the club waited for a security certificate for the 62,000-seater venue, they were forced to move last month's fixtures to the national stadium with hopes their league clash with Arsenal on March 2 could be the grand opening of their new home. However, Spurs confirmed there is still important testing to the fire detection and alarm system to undertake before the new stadium can be signed off. "Once again, thank you all for bearing with us and for the great support we have received from so many different quarters," chairman Daniel Levy said in a statement. "These next few weeks are pivotal." After the clash with Arsenal, Spurs have five home games re...

City change shape after defeat, Ozil dropped for Arsenal

Both Manchester City and Arsenal have made significant changes to their starting line-ups for their meeting on Sunday, with Pep Guardiola seemingly altering his team's shape entirely. City were beaten 2-1 at Newcastle United on Tuesday and Guardiola has responded to a poor performance by apparently naming a back three against the Gunners. Kyle Walker, Nicolas Otamendi and Aymeric Laporte look set to line up in defence, with John Stones dropping to the bench alongside Danilo, who struggled at St James' Park. Leroy Sane also makes way as Guardiola packs the midfield, bringing in Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan alongside Fernandinho, David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne. Arsenal similarly look to have moved away from the four-man defence named against Cardiff City in midweek, with Laurent Koscielny joining that quartet in the side. There is no room for Mesut Ozil, who has struggled to nail down a place in the team this season, as Alex Iwobi comes into the XI. The former Germany ...

Rashford drags Solskjaer's men back to winning ways

Marcus Rashford marked his 100th Premier League appearance with the only goal as Manchester United saw off Leicester City 1-0 on Sunday. The England striker finished clinically from Paul Pogba's pass to earn United an eighth win in nine league games under caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Their winning run had been halted by Burnley on Tuesday, when the Red Devils fought back from 2-0 down to claim a dramatic 2-2 draw, but the three points rarely looked in much doubt after Rashford's 10th top-flight goal of the season. Rashford somehow headed over from barely two yards out within the first five minutes, but he soon made amends, controlling Pogba's lofted pass expertly and drilling beyond Kasper Schmeichel. United eased off after taking the lead and invited some Leicester pressure, although a wayward header from Jonny Evans and a dipping Pereira strike were the best openings they could muster before the break. David de Gea was given a tougher test on the hour mark...
